Beehive business park

Work is nearing completion on the new Beehive Business Park in Ulverston, a market town in the South West corner of Cumbria.

The first phase of the scheme will comprise of an Aldi and Marks & Spencers food hall as well as three other employment units; a Screwfix store, a veterinary practice and a purpose-designed meat production facility for high-end Lakeland meat provider Lake District Farmer.

The site, which is located just off the A590, will deliver a wide range of benefits to the community including securing over 300 jobs. It will also encourage more local residents to do their main shopping in Ulverston rather than travelling to Barrow, and will attract residents from the surrounding communities such as Dalton, Coniston and Grange.

Engineers from Electricity North West's Business Connections team worked in partnership with the developer, Caddick Construction to energise all three retail units and street lighting on site. Utilising the existing substation at the new emergency services Blue Light Hub, our teams installed and connected three new Low Voltage (LV) mains cables totalling 350m.

Our Land Rights and Consents team worked efficiently to allow the energisation to take place within the prescribed deadlines for the units to be handed over to Aldi, Marks & Spencers and Screwfix Warehouse by the end of February 2020.  Our Business Connections team worked with Caddick Construction to time the cable installation around other site activities and pushed to have all the infrastructure in the ground to allow the roads to be reinstated and tarmacked.
