Selection process
With change happening in the energy industry at such a fast pace we need to be creative and forward-thinking. Are you a problem solver and like to think outside the box? Do you like to be outside fixing the problem, no matter what the weather? If so then our apprenticeship programme could be the right path for you.
Once you’ve decided which apprenticeship route is best for you, you’ll need to complete an online application form via our website. Click here to apply for an apprentice role.
Please make sure you provide as much detail as you can on your application. We’d love to know a bit more about you.
• Qualifications - include all the subjects and grades you have studied as well as any you are currently studying or awaiting grades for. If you are awaiting grades, put down your expected grades (schools and colleges can usually provide this information for you) • Employment - if you have any work experience, tell us about the role and skills you have gained • Achievements - include any school/college/university leader or council member you’ve been part of, as well as volunteering experience, team or project awards and Duke of Edinburgh or National Service Awards, extra-curricular clubs or hobbies and interests.
If you're interested in more than one of our apprenticeship programmes, you'll need to submit a separate application form for each programme. After you’ve submitted your application you’ll get an automatic email confirming this has been uploaded successfully.
During the advertising window we will keep in touch with you. If you reach the next stage of the process, we'll be in touch in early February to provide more information about the interview assessment day and next steps. We'll be working in the background as quickly as we can but it may take us a little time to get through the high number of applications we receive.
It's important to note that at each stage of the process we will contact you either by email or text to let you know how your application is progressing. Please be aware of any filters or firewalls that may prevent you from receiving emails or texts: remember to check your spam or junk folders regularly.
Great news, you’ll be invited to one of our assessment days at our training academy. We'll ask you to choose a date and time to come and meet us, and provide you with all the information about attending an interview/assessment session.
On the day we'll ask you to take part in some activities including a round robin style interview. You'll get the chance to meet some of our business managers, trainers and current apprentices.
At the interview/assessment day, we'll let you know when you'll next hear from us. We'll be in touch to let you know if you have been successful for a place on the apprentice programme. If you haven't been successful this time we'll provide you with feedback to help with your next interview and career journey.
Congratulations! Once you get an offer to join our apprenticeship programme you’re another step closer to shaping your future career in the energy industry. Successful candidates will start with us in September 2024.
Next steps
• You’ll receive your offer letter, contract of employment and pre-employment checklist via email. • You’ll receive an email link to our screening portal (all checks including identity, qualifications, security and referencing are conducted by a third party; Giant Screening). • You'll need to have a DBS check and depending on your Apprenticeship there may be other additional checks and/or a medical assessment. • If you are awaiting your GCSE or A-Level results, that’s not a problem you can provide them as soon as you receive them in August.
Until all our pre-employment checks are complete, your offer will remain conditional.
Meet and greet - you’ll be invited to our training academy for an Apprentice Welcome Day. This will be an exciting opportunity to meet your fellow apprentices who will be joining Electricity North West at the same time as you. It will also be a chance to try on personal protective equipment (PPE) so we can order the right size, ready for when you start with us.
It’s nearly time for you to come and join us. Once all your pre-employment checks are complete we will send your unconditional offer and details of your first day, so you know where to go and who to meet with. We'll keep in regular contact with you and provide you with lots of information to help you get prepared and let you know what to expect as part of the programme.
We hope you enjoy being part of our apprenticeship programme and enjoy your new career at Electricity North West.
