Could you be an energy champion and the face of Electricity North West’s Switched On campaign?

Could you be an energy champion and the face of Electricity North West’s Switched On campaign?

With the winter well and truly upon us and the days getting darker and colder, it can be very tempting to turn on all the lights – and leave them on – as well as cranking up the central heating dial a notch or two to make us feel cosy and snug. But do we ever stop to think about how much energy we are using? As a nation, we need to do far more to reduce the amount of energy we use and protect the remaining resources we have.

Part of this means investing in renewable energies, such as solar and wind power, to start creating our own renewable energy, but it’s also about saving energy by implementing small and simple tricks at home and encouraging others to do the same.

So, when it comes to electricity, do you;

  • Only put as much water in the kettle as you need?
  • Unplug your chargers when not in use?
  • Set thermostats on individual radiators, rather than using the main thermostat to control all of them?
  • Keep your loft as warm as your bed?
  • Even putting cling film on your windows can trap a small layer of air which can help stop heat escaping!

If so – we need you!

Everyone knows we should be doing more to save energy, but sometimes it’s hard to know where to start. In our previous blog, we explained how we’ve become increasingly reliant on electricity and that’s only going to increase further with the unprecedented growth of things like electric cars and smartphones.

That’s why we need more energy heroes – people like you who already implement lots of energy saving measures at home - to share your successes and become an energy champion, helping the North West get #switchedon to real sustainability and a low carbon future.

We’re looking for people to work with us to document their journey to becoming an Energy Hero; whether that’s investing in renewable energies, implementing simple lifestyle changes or both.

You might even begin encouraging friends and family to turn down the heat in their homes by just 1°C in order to save them as much as £60* per year, or switch their appliances off standby to save them £30* a year.

By helping us to switch customers onto energy efficiency, together, we aim to inspire people to rethink how they use electricity to drive long-term, sustainable change. We also need people to invest in renewable energies, such as solar and wind power, so we can start creating our own renewable energy.

You’re already well on your way to a more energy efficient – and cheaper – lifestyle. If you’ve downloaded our guide, you may even have some new handy hints and tricks to make an even greater difference to your bills, and the planet. Which is why we need you to inspire others to follow in your footsteps.

Let us follow you on your journey. Email: pressoffice@enwl.co.uk to express your interest in becoming an Energy Hero.

We have had more than 1,500 people enter our #switchedon energy test and the lucky winners are Gary Lannon from Wigan and Alexandra Wannell from Thornton.

Thanks again for getting involved in our #switchedon campaign; we can’t wait to hear from you!
