Work well underway in Rawtenstall
A major project replacing a number of electricity cables in an East Lancashire town is well underway.
Electricity North West, the region’s power network operator, commenced work on the £1m upgrade along Bacup Road, Rawtenstall last week.
Engineers are replacing nine underground High Voltage electricity cables stretching 1.6km along the road.
The replacement cables will benefit 6,000 customers in the town, who have previously experienced power cuts over the past two years caused by the ageing cables which were installed in the 1950s.
Michael Dawes, area manager for Electricity North West, said: “I want to thank the residents of Rossendale for their patience with the ongoing Bacup Road works.
“We pride ourselves on providing the best service possible and with that in mind, replacing the cables was essential to ensure we prevent further power outages in the future.
“We’ve listened to early requests and provided further parking and traffic seems to be running as normal”.
“The work is going tremendously well and already we have excavated 70m installing over 450m of ducting.
“As a team, we’re really pleased with how the work has started and as always, we’ll look to keep disruption to the bare minimum.”
To ensure engineers can work in a safe environment whilst carrying out the work, temporary traffic lights and a one way system are currently in place. The project is due to be completed in October.
Electricity North West will closely watch the flow of traffic but please allow extra time for your journey and try to avoid the area where possible. For more information and updates please visit www.enwl.co.uk/rawtenstall.
