A message from our Customer Director, Stephanie Trubshaw:

We’re expecting strong winds and heavy rain across the Northwest this weekend, which can increase the risk of power cuts to our customers’ homes and businesses. We know this is a very busy time of year for everyone and we’re mindful that some customers have already experienced recent power cuts due to Storms Bert and Darragh over the past few weeks. I wanted to assure you that we’re working hard to prepare and we’re ready to respond if we need to minimise the impact for our customers in the build up to Christmas.

Strong winds can also make it difficult and challenging to carryout repairs straight away as it’s unsafe for our engineers to climb in these conditions. We’re continuing to monitor the weather conditions throughout and have some helpful advice to keep you comfortable and prepared too.

Prepare for a power cut

  • Protect the food in your fridge & freezer. Fill any gaps in your freezer with bags of water - this will keep the temperature cooler for longer in case of a power cut. (A frozen bag of ice placed in your fridge in a power cut will maintain the temperatuer for longer)
  • Keep your battery powered devices charged when expecting bad weather
  • Search and save instructions to activate low power mode on your mobile phone. Make sure you have data available so you can make Wi-Fi calls and access the internet
  • Keep a battery powered torch handy with spare batteries
  • Prepare blankets & extra layers to keep warm
  • Battery powered radios are handy for updates
  • Ensure medical and mobility equipment have a back up battery pack available. Contact your medical provider for extra support or our extra care team on 105
  • If your water supply is dependant on electricity, stock up on bottled water & fill buckets to flush your toilet
  • Regularly save anything you’re working on your computers and devices
  • Familiarise yourself with the manual override for any electric gates, garage doors and house alarm systems
  • Make sure we have your up-to-date mobile number so we can contact you – we aim to proactively contact customers within the first 15/20 minutes of a power cut with updates on times for restoring your supply - call us on 105 to update your details
