Kite and drone flying
Kite and drone flying
Never fly kites or model aircraft anywhere near electricity overhead lines.
If a kite or model aircraft is blown towards an electricity line, you must:
- let go of the string or any attached control wire immediately
- do not attempt to touch the string to pull the kite free, high voltage electricity can travel down string
- keep yourself and others well away
- ring the number shown on the pole notice for help, we can safely remove the kite from the line
- do not leave it hanging and say nothing as someone else could get hurt or even killed by touching the hanging string.
Look out! Look up.
Check for overhead power lines in the area where you are going to set up your sports activity and treat all lines as live.
Overhead power lines are generally mounted on wooden poles but can also be on steel pylons or concrete structure.
Drones
Drones have grown to be a popular hobby used by many over the past few years. If used safely they can be great fun. There are many electrical hazards that carry a risk when flying a drone which include pylons and poles carrying high voltage electricity and electrical substations. If a drone gets close to or contacts our equipment it could not only damage the equipment, but pose a threat of injury or death to others. Ensure you carry out pre flying checks to confirm no pylons, poles or substations are within the area of intended use.
