We are delighted to announce the latest Powering our Communities winners. We have awarded £83,658 to six projects which have all demonstrated widespread community engagement alongside activity which will delivery or have the potential to deliver carbon savings.  Over the last seven years we supported 45 projects with £576,000 through the Powering our Communities Fund. 

The 2024 Powering our Communities funding has been awarded to;

• Carlisle Home Energy Community Engagement and Support, Cumbria Action for Sustainability. This project aims to support households in Carlisle to reduce their home energy usage and switch to renewable energy sources, using our proven community energy engagement model in this new location. 

• Greystoke Pool Future Energy Sustainability Project, Greystoke and District Sports Association. The project aim is to explore with feasibility studies: how to reduce the energy consumption and carbon footprint of the pool and buildings 

• Solway Rural Energy Hub, Port Carlisle Bowling Club Ltd. This project will establish Solway Energy Hub to install PV and batteries to establish a rural focal point for demonstrations, dissemination of information leaflets, support and signposting. Including establishing a support group for local residents to help them to implement low carbon technologies. 

• Merseybank Community Owned Energy Group, Groundwork Greater Manchester. The project aims to; support the Merseybank Community to learn & become more informed about the range of low carbon technologies available and community owned energy, building capacity & supporting them to make a confident decision on the viability for their community of community owned energy, including the formation of a (shadow) cooperative or mutual structure to take the first steps in green tech./renewable energy.  

• Deeplish Community Energy Hub, Deeplish Community Centre Association. In partnership with Groundwork, monthly workshops and drop in sessions to raise awareness and action around energy efficiency and 121 support for the implementation of smaller energy efficiency measures targeted in a culturally appropriate way to reach a deprived community who's first langue isn't English.  

• Scout Hut transition to net zero, Longford Scouts.  The project will aim to replace and improve outdated power sources at the Scout hut with green-energy alternatives (likely to include solar panels, battery and LED lighting but subject to a full retrofit survey and advice).
