Low Voltage Protection and Communications

Low Voltage Protection and Communications (LVPaC)

The increased use of demand and generation low carbon technologies means that power flow will change dramatically in the future. Electricity networks will therefore become more complex and need more complex protection.

Our LVPAC project used the WEEZAP, a retrofit device with switching, monitoring and basic protection capabilities which fits into existing low voltage assets. We developed the WEEZAP’s protection capabilities and improved links to allow us to communicate directly with the devices and modify the protection remotely. The project ran from September 2013 until March 2015.
