Strategic Innovation Fund
The SIF is a funding mechanism launched by Ofgem in partnership with Innovate UK in 2021. It replaces the Network Innovation Competition and comprises three phases; discovery, alpha and beta.
Ofgem has described the SIF as aiming to "find and fund ambitious, innovative projects with the potential to accelerate the transition to net zero. These projects should help shape the future of the gas and electricity networks and succeed commercially where possible."
Each competition is focussed on specific challenges outlined by Ofgem and Innovate UK in advance of the discovery phase.
