As we move towards a sustainable future, we’re here to support your interest in installing low carbon technologies (LCTs) like electric vehicle chargers, heat pumps, solar panels, and energy storage devices for your property.

While we maintain the electricity network, your chosen installer will handle the installation of these technologies.  Our role is to ensure there is sufficient power available for you to connect to our network.  We're committed to helping you embrace a greener lifestyle.

 

 

How we can help you and your installer

We understand that our customers are at different stages of adopting low carbon technologies (LCTs).  Our aim is to make this transition as smooth as possible.  If your current electricity supply can handle the additional load, your installer simply needs to inform us about your LCT installation.  In some cases, we may need to upgrade your electricity supply first.

Installing electric vehicle (EV) chargers

If your installer can connect your EV charger, they just need to notify us of the installation within 28 days.  However, sometimes your electricity supply might not be sufficient for the additional load, and we may need to upgrade it first.

For installations in multi-occupied properties, such as blocks of flats or industrial units, it's important to get the property owner's permission before starting any work.

The process to install an electric vehicle charger

  1. Choose an installer

Simply choose an installer, and they will handle the rest.  You can find approved installers by visiting the government website (Find an electric vehicle (EV) chargepoint installer - GOV.UK) and entering your postcode.

  1. Let us know

Once you've chosen an installer, they will visit you to complete the necessary checks and assess whether they can directly install the charger. If they can, they will notify us of the installation within 28 days by XXXX.

  1. When installers need our support

If your electricity supply needs an upgrade, one of our experts will assess the requirements and provide a reinforcement design for any necessary work.  Occasionally, we may need to visit you as part of the assessment.

The cost and time

If any works are required to upgrade the supply to facilitate LCT’s being installed there is no cost to the customer if the connection is single phase and less than 100 amperages, all costs are covered by ENWL.  We can't provide exact time frames online, but we'll give you a detailed timeframe after reviewing your application.  In some cases, we may need to visit you first, which will be arranged through your installer.  We're here to support you and ensure a smooth installation process for your electric car charger.

Installing a heat pump

A heat pump uses electricity to transfer heat from outside into your property, similar to how a fridge works. It's a common replacement for traditional heating methods when switching to greener options.  If your installer can connect your heat pump, they just need to notify us of the installation within 28 days. However, sometimes your electricity supply might not be sufficient for the additional load, and we may need to upgrade it first.

Before installing your heat pump, it's important to ask your installer to check if your new heat pump is registered on the Energy Network Association's heat pump database Databases – Energy Networks Association (ENA)
