An Independent Connections Provider (ICP) is an accredited company that can build electricity networks to the specification and quality required for them to be adopted by either a DNO, such as Electricity North West, or an Independent Distribution Network Operator (IDNO)

An IDNO (Independent Distribution Network Operator) may adopt the new electricity network that supplies a new development which is connected to the local distribution network.  The IDNO is responsible for the ongoing operation and maintenance of their network, including any fault repairs.

Your chosen ICP will be able to advise with timescales to deliver your connection.  Electricity North West will progress the non-contestable work following acceptance and liaise with your chosen ICP to ensure work is delivered in accordance with the timescales detailed within Standard Licence Condition 15.

This will depend on the ICP, but they will be able to provide a quote for comparison. 

If you have received a dual quote from us, it will include the two following options as standard.

1. The first section outlines the cost for us to complete all of the works for you.
2. The second section outlines the cost for us to complete only the non-contestable works.

The second option is typically cheaper, because it doesn't provide costs for all the work required for your connection. After receiving our quote you can contact an Independent Connections Provider (ICP) to ask them to quote for the contestable work required for your connection. You will need to make sure that the ICP you choose has the necessary accreditations to complete your work.  Although we don't issue dual quotes for a small domestic connection, you can still request an ICP to provide a quote. 

Once you have decided which option to take you will need to complete and return the acceptance form we provide in the quotation and arrange payment for the work we will complete for you (either all works or just non contestable).

When you apply for a new connection, there are some elements of work that can only be carried out by us. These are typically referred to as non-contestable activities.

There may also be some activities that can be carried out by Independent Connection Providers (ICP). These are typically referred to as contestable activities.
