Respond technology
Respond technology
The Respond project technology includes the intelligent fault level assessment tool and two (technical) fault level mitigation techniques – adaptive protection and the Is-limiter.
Following a number of workshops, factory acceptance testing and site acceptance testing with our project partner Schneider Electric, the fault level assessment tool was successfully integrated into our network management system.
The adaptive protection installations were designed to ensure they can be easily translated to other distribution network operators (DNOs) as a standalone retrofit unit and were installed at five 11kV and 6.6kV high voltage (HV) substations and two 33kV extra high voltage (EHV) substations.
The Is-limiters went through a number of factory acceptance testing stages during construction and were installed at two high voltage substations.
Fault level monitoring reports
These reports document the results obtained from fault level monitors installed at Respond trial sites. Detailed results and interpretations are included in the appendices.
Is-limiter specification & installation
The methodology for the installation and commissioning of the Is-limiters.
Adaptive protection specification & installation
Describes the methodology used to install the adaptive protection relays.
Configuration of NMS & installation of FLAT software
Overall system functionality and acceptance testing to commission the fault level assessment tool.
Fault level assessment tool validation report
Validation of the tool demonstrated through comparison with simulated fault level results.
FCL service specification & installation
Equipment specifications and installation configurations that could be used to provide fault current limiting services.
Respond updated policies
Proposed changes to Electricity North West's policies and procedures, required to accommodate the new Respond techniques into business as usual.
